Although it may have sounded non-stop sirens well into the early hours of the new year, Maui Fire Department crews responded to just nine fire calls. Even better news is that no one was injured in any of the incidents.
For the time period of Capt. Paul Hakke of the Maui Fire Department provided Maui TV News with the details of the log from 7:30 a.m. New Year’s Eve through 7:30 a.m. New Year’s Day.
There were three vehicle fires; one each in the Olowalu, Kihei, and Ho’olehua (Moloka’i) areas. None of these fires were fireworks-related.
There were three trash/dumpster fires;one each in the Lahaina, Kihei, and Wailea areas. Although not confirmed, these fires were suspected as fireworks-related.
There was one incident in Kahului that was reported as a possible structure fire, but was actually a smoke-related call because no fire threat was found.

There was a utility pole fire in Makawao; not fireworks-related. And the last fire incident was a tree fire reported at Manele, Lanai. This fire was most likely fireworks-related as the fire was discovered high in a tree.
